I'm just a average thirtysomething who enjoys drawing cartoon-type art in what little spare time I have, that's all. I'm not special or anything, like I'm destined for great things.

Mall-walking & Men Who Stare At Goats

Sat Nov 21, 2009, 3:00 PM
This evening, I did two things: I did a bit of mall-walking in the outdoor mall at Partridge Creek in the Michigan township of Clinton, just taking in the sights of huge Christmas trees, lights, and all that wonderful stuff...then I went to the cineplex to see a movie. The movie was titled The Men Who Stare At Goats, about a Vietnam veteran, played by Jeff Bridges, who in the early 1980s forms a small group of psychic soldiers called the New World Army, a.k.a. the "Jedi" (I'm not making this up. This was really in the movie), and George Clooney plays one of Bridges's best students. Of course, they do alot of flashbacks between the 1980s and the Iraq War, where the film takes place in present time in which we follow Clooney and Ewan McGregor, who plays a reporter who is so pissed off at his ex-wife for leaving him for another guy that he joins the service. And the goats in question: they were part of an experiment in which one uses his or her psychic abilities to kill an animal just by staring at it, or as Clooney puts it using Star Wars terms "Using the Power of the Dark Side".

Overall it was an enjoyable film. Granted I had to wait in a ridiculously long ticket line behind some people waiting to get in to this New Moon that opened this weekend. Since I knew absolutely squat about the Twilight series, I made a joke about the local Chinese restaurant with the same name in responce to the ticket gal saying that the movie was supposed to be good.

"I don't know. After the last couple of times I've been there, they might as well rename that place The Shitty Wok!!!" (a little joke for you South Park fans out there)

Naturally, she didn't get it.

So all that said, I think I'll have a beer and watch some old-school anime for the rest of the evening. Star Blazers, perhaps?
